Exploring Alnwick

Take a look around
the market town of Alnwick

Alnwick is a historic market town in the heart of Northumberland, less than 20 minutes’ drive from Doxford Cottages. There is so much to explore in Alnwick but we highly recommend heading to Alnwick Gardens.

The gardens are beautiful all year round, but if you’re planning to visit at the end of April or the beginning of May, you should be able to see the Cherry Blossoms in full bloom, which only happens for a couple of weeks every year.

Of course, you should also visit Alnwick Castle. You may recognise this as a filming location for Harry Potter The Philosophers Stone and The Chamber of Secrets!

If you're in Alnwick...

Some of our other recommendations include:

Barter Books – the largest second-hand bookstore in the UK, complete with open fires and cosy spaces to relax.

Adam & Eve – a local farm-to-table pub offering great food and creative cocktails. Their warm rustic interiors and garden, which is filled with plants and glowing lights, make this a wonderful place to dine.

Pig in Muck – despite its name, this is a great pub for social dining in Alnwick, where they serve a delicious brunch and tapas menu with cocktails and beer.

The Dirty Bottles – an iconic pub in Alnwick with a menu filled with favourite pub classics & modern dishes.
